Handcrafted Skateboard Script by Simon Ålander

Simon Ålander had a black skateboard lying around and decided he needed to do something about it. The Swedish designer has a talent for hand-lettering and enjoys using a combination of analog and digital techniques to create his typographic designs. He knew lettering was the answer, and his New York hand-drawn script combines skate culture with contrasting letterforms and flourishes.

To create this piece, Simon started by using a projector to trace his design and then used a white marker to enhance the outlines. He applied three layers of white ink to form the foundation and then used a stippling technique to add the depth and texture you see in the script.
